Actress Jennifer Aniston has opened up about her on again/off again relationship with singer John Mayer, describing him as “extraordinary” in a candid new interview.
Hot on the heels of her recent stab at love rival and ‘Brad-snatcher’ Angelina Jolie in Vanity Fair magazine, Aniston has spoken again about her true feelings for Mayer and her quest for love after her devastating split from Brad Pitt.
Speaking to Britain’s Mirror newspaper about the man who is known colloquially as “Hollywood player Mayer”, Aniston gushes about her new beau, and dishes more dirt on her divorce from heartthrob Pitt.
Effusing about Mayer like a smitten kitten, Aniston blushes: “He’s a rare one. He is extraordinary and it is wonderful to watch him.
“The way his brain works and the way he thinks thoughts… it’s beautiful.
“It’s an amazing thing to watch a musician think. I don’t know many musicians but when his guitar is on him it’s just like a channel.
“It’s something I’ve never ever seen before.”
Aniston, 39, and ‘player Mayer’, 31, rekindled their romance in October – two months after the musician revealed that he had previously dumped the former Friends star by text.
Bumpy road to love
The Maniston romance hasn’t been plain sailing by any stretch of the imagination. After Aniston found and lost love with Pitt, she had a succession of unsuccessful relationships with the likes of actors Vince Vaughn and Tate Donovan – and then along came Mayer.
Mayer, who has been linked to a string of ladies, including Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jessica Simpson, appeared to be a strange choice for Aniston – who had traditionally gone for the ‘Hollywood hottie’ type.
Legend has it that Maniston first clocked eyes on each other at a party thrown by mutual friend Sheryl Crow earlier this year, and they became an item soon after.
But months later Mayer callously dumped the actress amid rumours that he just wasn’t ready to commit to a serious relationship.
“Have me as a man who ended a relationship stand here and write some truth,” Mayer said after the split.
“There’s no lying, there’s no cheating. There’s no nothing. People are different, they have different chemistry, they have different lives.
“I ended a relationship because there is no lying. I ended a relationship to be alone because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right. I don’t waste people’s time.”
So the hot couple is now back on an even keel, and we’re as fascinated as ever by the soap opera that is Maniston’s turbulent love life – something Aniston says she finds “ridiculous”.
Of the continued public interest in her love life, Aniston says: “I am honestly getting sick of it, and I feel like telling people, ‘You know what? It’s none of your (expletive) business.’ Seriously, it’s enough,” she told USA Today.
Here are a few other highlights from Aniston’s revealing interview:
Jen on her divorce:
“Everybody goes through tough times. You’ve just got to figure out how to get through them. It’s my history and my memory. I used to really take things personally. It took me some time to figure this out but if you can be truthful and honest with who you are, then you have a much easier time walking through life.”
Jen on a Friends reunion:
“If there is to be a reunion I would hope it would be sooner, rather than later, and I think it would be better if we did just one episode. Courteney Cox and I have discussed it and it would be fun to get together again but I don’t know if it will happen.”
Jen on turning 40:
“I panicked when I was leaving my 20s and the 30s were a challenge, quite frankly. They were so full, from Friends to everything – that was a decade! Now I’m ready for the next one.”
For someone who is supposedly “sick” of her love life being discussed by all and sundry, Aniston seems to be doing very little to keep it out of the press. I mean, it’s great if she feels she’s found ‘the one’ again and her life’s turned out to be a Doris Day movie – but don’t moan about our interest when you keep talking about it . Put up or shut up.
